AIBD//Our network//Regional airports

“The PRAS is a milestone in the implementation of the development project of the sub-regional air hub, a flagship project of the PES…”

“… In the long run, the entire national air transport system will be profoundly revolutionised, thus offering unprecedented air mobility throughout the national territory.

President of the Republic of Senegal

An ambition in progress

As set out in the Senegal Emerging Plan (PSE), the benchmark for economic and social development policies, Senegal aims to become the leading West African air and tourism hub by 2035 through :

  • The development and influence of the Blaise Diagne International Airport;

  • Rehabilitation/reconstruction of regional airports in the framework of the SIRP;

  • The innovations of the airline Air Sénégal SA.

In pursuit of this ambition, the state initiated and launched the Senegalese Airport Rehabilitation Programme (PRAS) in 2018 as part of the Senegalese government’s long-term development strategy.

In this perspective, the competences of AIBD SA have been extended to all airports in Senegal in order to stimulate the development of a real economic activity around these airports and the conquest of the West African airspace through the establishment of a dynamic and connected network of regional airports.

A network of modernised regional airports

PRAS 1 : Saint Louis, Ourossogui-Matam, Ziguinchor, Tambacounda, Kédougou

PRAS 2 : Kolda, Podor, Linguère, Bakel, Cap Skirring, Simenti, Sédhiou, Kaolack

The Senegalese Airport Rehabilitation Programme (PRAS) stems from the guidelines of the Emerging Senegalese Plan (PSE) in terms of transport policies, aiming, on the one hand, to create wealth through cheaper access to national and international markets and, on the other hand, to meet the demands of urban and rural populations in terms of accessibility and mobility.

In order to implement this strategic option, the authorities are implementing a series of coordinated initiatives to strengthen the network of airport infrastructures in order to make the regions of Senegal more accessible and connected, and also to promote their economic development.

In this respect, the Government of Senegal, through AIBD SA, has decided to undertake the rehabilitation/reconstruction/construction of 8 regional airports within the framework of PRAS 2 : Kolda, Podor, Linguère, Bakel, Cap Skirring, Simenti, Sédhiou, et Kaolack.
